Will the London Underground network cope this weekend?
On 19 May the royal wedding is taking place in Windsor and those travelling to the event have been urged to use public transport.
On the same day, the FA Cup Final takes place at Wembley Stadium and involves Chelsea.
Transport for London (TfL) is also planning engineering works this weekend and the District and Circle lines will be closed, with part closures on London Overground and the DLR.
TfL and the Mayor have so far resisted calls to suspend engineering work for the weekend.
The London Assembly Transport Committee meets tomorrow to question TfL about the noticeable increase in delays on the Tube network in recent times and how it will avoid a meltdown this coming weekend. The guests are:
- Nigel Holness, Director of Network Operations, Transport for London
- Peter McNaught, Director of Asset Operations, Transport for London
The Committee will also discuss river bus services and how to increase the number of commuter (or regular) passenger journeys on the Thames. The guests are:
- Danny Price, General Manager of Sponsored Services, TfL
- Robin Mortimer, Chief Executive, Port of London Authority
- Sean Collins, Managing Director, MBNA Thames Clippers
- Emma McFarlane, Passenger Representative
The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 16 May from 10:00am in The Chamber at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).
Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
The meeting can also be viewed via webcast.
