In response to the Mayor’s announcement that he has approved plans for the redevelopment of the Kensington Forum Hotel, which will deliver 100 per cent affordable housing as part of the scheme, Labour’s London Assembly Housing Spokesperson, Tom Copley AM, said:
“I’m delighted that the Mayor has used his planning powers once again to intervene and triple the number of genuinely affordable homes on this scheme.
“The local council has a poor record when it comes to meeting its housing targets, so securing these new social-rented homes is a step towards alleviating the stark housing crisis being faced by the community.
“This comes as part of City Hall’s ambitious plans to deliver 116,000 genuinely affordable homes by 2022, including kick-starting the construction of the next generation of council homes across the capital.
“It needs to be reiterated that to meet the scale of demand for genuinely affordable homes in London, the Government would need to provide around four times more funding than they currently allocate to the Mayor for housing purposes”.
