The rise in Islamophobic hate crime

A dramatic increase in Islamophobic hate crimes was reported following the Paris attacks, including an attempted arson on the Finsbury Park Mosque.

According to Met figures, 76 incidents of Islamophobic hate crime were reported two weeks after the attacks, compared to 24 incidents the week prior.

The London Assembly Police and Crime Committee will tomorrow question the Met Commissioner about the increase in hate crimes since the attacks and how the Met is managing these issues.

The Committee will also discuss its report, “Preventing extremism in London” which assesses the implementation of the Government’s Prevent Strategy in the capital and makes recommendations to strengthen existing efforts to counteract extremism.
