Taxis & minicabs – what’s the next destination?

buses and taxis
Created on
12 November 2018

In an industry that is experiencing vast technological change, along with legal and political disputes, the future may seem uncertain for taxi and minicab drivers and business owners.

Around 400,000 journeys are made by taxi or private hire vehicles in London each day – that’s 1% of all journeys in the capital.

The London Assembly Transport Committee continues its investigation into how to best support the taxi and private hire industry.

Tomorrow the committee will hold the second of two meetings to discuss the future of the industry and how to ensure standards are maintained and improved for passengers. The guests are:

From 10am

  • Steve Garelick, Regional Organiser, GMB Professional Drivers’ Branch
  • James Farrar, Chair United Private Hire Drivers (UPHD) branch of Independent Workers Union of Great Britain

From approx. 10.45am

  • Helen Chapman, Director of Licensing, Regulation and Charging, TfL
  • Gareth Powell, Managing Director of Surface Transport, TfL

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, 13 November at 10:00am in Committee Room 5 (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).

Media and members of the public are invited to attend

The meeting can also be viewed LIVE via webcast or Youtube
