Statement from the Chairman of the London Assembly on Westminster

Created on
23 March 2017

Statement from the Chairman of the London Assembly, Tony Arbour AM, regarding the events at Westminster:

Each day, whilst Londoners go about their business, the police and emergency services are prepared to put themselves in harm's way to ensure that every day is safe and peaceful.

Yesterday that peace was shattered and Keith Palmer was murdered whilst keeping London safe.

The London Assembly, on behalf of Londoners, is proud of PC Palmer and his colleagues and all those who responded so bravely to these dreadful events.

The Assembly also sends its heartfelt thoughts to those who were injured and to the families of those who lost their loved ones in the tragic event. We stand ready to support you in any way we can.

Our capital gives thanks for the resilience of all who live and work here.

We are determined never to give in to violence and (will today, at a special meeting) express our gratitude to those who every day defend our freedoms.
