News from Siân Berry: New Met Commissioner should continue support for equality in policing

Created on
29 September 2016

London Assembly Member Sian Berry has reacted to the announcement that Bernard Hogan-Howe, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, will leave the Met in February next year.

Sian said:

“The next few years represent our best chance ever to fundamentally change the Metropolitan Police into something that really represents and works with Londoners, not just at the top but throughout the force, with more equality in promotions and recruitment that helps the Met really reflect the diversity of London.

“It’s great that the current Commissioner has supported a change in the law to allow positive action to recruit more women and ethnic minorities. I hope this will be supported by his successor too.”
