Nearly 5,000 sexual offences and 3,200 rape offences [1] have been reported to the Metropolitan Police so far in 2019. The number of sexual and rape offences has risen by 80 per cent and 140 per cent respectively since 2011.
In April, the Mayor announced additional funding to support victims of sexual violence and domestic abuse [2]. This is in addition to the Mayor’s Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy [3] with £44 million of funding.
Tomorrow, the London Assembly Police & Crime Committee will hold a Q&A session with the Metropolitan Police and the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime on rape and sexual offences and how reports are being responded to.
