Met Commissioner questioned on rising crime and falling funds

Police hat
Created on
16 October 2017
  • Crime is increasing in London. The number of total notable offences rose by almost 20 percent between 2014-15 and the start of 2017-18[1].
  • The Met needs to save an extra £185 million, even after back-office savings have been made[2]. The police pay rise adds an extra £11 million[3] and terror incidents in the last year have created additional costs. The London Bridge incident alone cost £10 million.

How is the Met dealing with rising crime levels in the capital?

From where will the Met make further savings?

Will police numbers drop and if so, by how many?

The London Assembly Police and Crime Committee will tomorrow question the Met Commissioner, Cressida Dick CBE QPM, and other guests on: performance; funding; moped enabled crime, hate crime, modern slavery and the Government’s Race Disparity Audit.

The guests are:

  • Cressida Dick CBE QPM, Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, Metropolitan Police
  • Sophie Linden, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime
  • Craig Mackey QPM, Deputy Commissioner, Metropolitan Police

The meeting will take place on Tuesday 17 October from 10.00am in the Chamber at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).

Media and members of the public are invited to attend.

The meeting can also be viewed via webcast.
