The final report of the Joint Committee on the Draft Domestic Abuse Bill has been published today.
The London Assembly reaffirms its call for the Government to create a Domestic Abusers Register as part of its draft Domestic Abuse Bill.
Len Duvall AM, Assembly Spokesperson for the Register, said:
“We are disappointed that the Joint Committee has not followed the lead of the Home Affairs Select Committee in recommending a Domestic Abusers Register. However, we are encouraged that the Committee believes that such a register should be kept under consideration.
“A register will put vital information in the hands of potential victims about the partners they are beginning a relationship with. Having access to this information could be the difference between life and death.”
“We agree with the Joint Committee that the Bill should be amended to give greater protection to victims of domestic abuse.
“The Assembly continues to firmly believe that a crucial way of mitigating the harm caused by serial domestic abusers is to introduce a Domestic Abusers Register.”
