Rape prosecutions have fallen to their lowest levels since records began with only 2,102 prosecutions in 2019-20. These figures represent a 59 per cent decline since 2016-17. [1]
Only 439 of the 2,102 prosecutions resulted in convictions in England and Wales in 2019-20.
The average time for a report of rape to be charged is 395 days, the longest of any crime type.
