Questions for the Met on sex abuse investigations

202020 Challenge
Created on
24 February 2016

This meeting took place on 25 March 2016. Read the transcript here.

The Met Commissioner has apologised to Lady Brittan for communication delays in the investigation into allegations of sexual offences against her husband, Lord Brittan[1].

Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe has also requested an independent review of the police approach to investigating allegations of sexual abuse, in particular historic allegations against public figures. Recent criticism of Operation Midland prompted the review [2].

The London Assembly Police and Crime Committee will tomorrow question the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime and the Met about how the force handles allegations of sexual abuse - and potential changes to its approach.

The guests are;

  • Craig Mackey QPM, Deputy Commissioner, Metropolitan Police Service
  • Stephen Greenhalgh, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC)

Other topics will include;

  • Gang violence
  • PEEL (police effectiveness, efficiency and legitimacy programme) report[3]
  • Support for adults with learning disabilities in the criminal justice system

The meeting will take place on Thursday 25 February from 10.00am in the Chamber at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).

Media and members of the public are invited to attend.

The meeting can also be viewed via webcast.
