Questions for new Met Commissioner on major incidents in London

Police and Crime Plan
Created on
20 June 2017
  • Between May 2013 and June 2017, 18 attempted terror attacks were prevented by the police and security services. Five of these occurred in the past four months - when three terror attacks were also carried out.
  • The Commissioner has said that the nature of the terror threat has changed. As a result, the Met has highlighted the need for the public’s help in identifying people that may be planning to carry out attacks.

Does the new Commissioner believe the Met has enough resource to tackle the current terror threat?

How confident can the public be that intelligence they give the Met and security services, will be considered?

What has the Mayor done to support London’s preparedness for a terror attack, since the report published by Lord Harris last year?

The London Assembly Police and Crime Committee will tomorrow question the new Met Commissioner, Cressida Dick for the first time. Topics will include; protecting London from terrorism; the priorities for the Commissioner; and the challenges for policing in London.

The guests are:

  • Cressida Dick CBE QPM, Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, Metropolitan Police
  • Sophie Linden, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime
  • Craig Mackey QPM, Deputy Commissioner, Metropolitan Police

The meeting will take place on Wednesday 21 June from 10.00am in the Chamber at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).

Media and members of the public are invited to attend.

The meeting can also be viewed via webcast.
