The Mayor of London has no statutory role in the commissioning of any health services or health service provision. However, he does need a strategy which sets out “proposals and policies for promoting the reduction of health inequalities between people living in London”.
The Mayor has made some bold promises to champion the health of all Londoners, but with no statutory powers over healthcare, how does he actually intend to achieve this? And with health inequalities widening in London, will his forthcoming strategy make a difference?
Tomorrow the Health Committee will question the Mayor’s senior advisors on the Mayor’s health-related activities, progress on the development of the Health Inequalities Strategy and other mayoral health initiatives. The guests are:
- Dr Tom Coffey OBE, Senior Advisor to the Mayor, Health Policy
- Professor Yvonne Doyle CB, Statutory Health Advisor and London Regional Director, Public Health England
The meeting will take place on 14 February at 10:00am in Committee Room 5 at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1). Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
The meeting can also be viewed LIVE via webcast
