In February and March 2022, the Greater London Authority (GLA) published draft planning guidance, known as London Plan Guidance (LPG), relating to design and housing quality.[2]
The Planning and Regeneration Committee will tomorrow discuss two of the guides, focusing on housing design and small sites and assess whether they will meet Londoners’ needs in terms of the design of their homes. Topics for discussion will include: the impact of the pandemic and Londoners’ changing needs, access to green space and the risk of overshadowing of tall buildings.
Do these guides fulfil their purpose of driving the delivery of more quality homes in London? How can local communities be more involved in the design process?

Notes to editors
- Full agenda papers
- The four LPGs on design were originally published and consulted on as a draft suite of documents under the title of ‘Good Quality Homes for All Londoners’, in October 2020-January 2021. Following that first consultation, the guidance was redrafted and restructured as four separate LPGs, which were then published in draft and consulted on in February-March 2022. The GLA intends to publish a consultation summary document along with the final guidance later this year.
