In the second and final meeting of its investigation, the Budget and Performance Committee will question police representatives on the Met’s capacity to keep Londoners safe while attempting to save £400 million by 2020-21.
- The Met argues it needs an additional £170 million to cover London’s specific needs as a capital city
- MOPAC and the Met have a strategic target of 32,000 police officers but the Committee’s June meeting[2] heard that the Met is now modelling for a police service of just over 30,000 officers
- The Met is currently budgeting for only a 1 per cent pay rise to officers – each percentage more would cost the Met £25 million
The following guests will attend:
- Dr Rick Muir, Director, Police Foundation
- Ken Marsh MBE, Chair of the Executive Committee, Police Federation
- Matt Parr CB, Her Majesty’s Inspector to the Metropolitan Police Service
- Sarah Thornton CBE QPM, Chair of the National Police Chief’s Council
The Committee will also examine changes to the Mayor’s budget guidance for 2018-2019 with the following guests:
· David Bellamy, Mayor’s Chief of Staff, GLA
· Martin Clarke, Executive Director of Resources, GLA
· Tom Middleton, Head of Finance & Governance, GLA
The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 19 July from 10.00am in The Chamber at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).
