The Mayor is consulted on all planning applications that are of potential strategic importance to London. These are commonly known as ‘referred’ applications. An application is referred to the Mayor if it meets the criteria set out in the Mayor of London Order (2008). [1] The criteria include:
- Development of 150 residential units or more
- Development over 30 metres in height (outside the City of London)
- Development on Green Belt or Metropolitan Open Land
Where the Mayor takes over the application, these are commonly referred to as ‘call-ins’, ‘public hearings’, 'representation hearings' and ‘Stage Threes’.
The Planning and Regeneration Committee will tomorrow investigate the community engagement on applications that are considered by the Mayor.
- What barriers or challenges exist for communities engaging with the Mayor on planning applications?
- Does the Mayor take adequate account of community views when considering called-in applications?
The guests are:
- Patria Roman-Velazquez, Chair of Trustees, Latin Elephant
- Connor McNeill, Victorian Society
- Clare Delmar, Listen to Locals
- Jerry Flynn, 35% Campaign
- Mark Brearley, Vital OKR
- Angus Robertson, Alton Action
