London’s rail network is under huge strain.
Passenger numbers have never been higher, and demand continues to grow.
Without further investment, services will become increasingly busy and reliability will suffer.
- Over half a million people travel into central London every working day via national rail services. [1]
- Nine of the ten busiest stations in Great Britain are in London.
- London’s suburban hub stations are busier than most city’s mainline stations:
- East Croydon station is busier than Edinburgh
- Bromley South is busier than Newcastle. [2]
Tomorrow, the London Assembly Transport Committee will examine the current and future needs of London’s rail network. The guests are:
- Dr Helena Titheridge, UCL
- David Leam, London First
- Stephen Joseph OBE, Campaign for Better Transport
- Niall Bolger, South London Partnership
The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 13 June from 10:00am in The Chamber at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).
Media and members of the public are invited to attend
The meeting can also be viewed LIVE via webcast or YouTube
