Calls to tackle violence against women and girls have intensified in recent months following the tragic deaths of Sarah Everard and Sabina Nessa.
The murder of Ms Everard has also led to a review of culture and standards at the Metropolitan Police[1]. A separate inquiry has been announced by the Home Secretary into the circumstances that allowed Ms Everard’s killer to be employed as a police officer[2].
The London Assembly Police and Crime Committee will tomorrow question Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick on the safety of women and girls in the capital. The Commissioner will also face questions on vetting and recruitment processes for the force.
Other topics in the session of the Police and Crime Committee include:
- Stop and search
- Crime in the Black community
- Court backlog
The guests are:
- Dame Cressida Dick DBE QPM, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service
- Sophie Linden, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime
The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 20 October 2021 from 10am, in the Chamber at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).
Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
