Making London safer for women and girls

Police tape
Created on
02 November 2021

Violence against women and girls (VAWG) is now being described as an epidemic. There is a national recognition that more needs to be done to protect and increase the safety of women and girls, but what is the view of those on the ground?

Tomorrow, the London Assembly Police and Crime Committee will meet with a range of organisations and survivors of VAWG to discuss themes including:

  • Protecting women and girls in London
  • Support for victims
  • Working with offenders

The meeting will form part of the Committee’s ongoing monitoring of the Mayor’s efforts to tackle VAWG. Organisations will talk about their experiences in the capital and make recommendations for change. Groups invited include:

  • Advance
  • Against Violence & Abuse (AVA)
  • Centre for Women’s Justice
  • End Violence Against Women Coalition (EVAW)
  • Rape Crisis South London
  • Reclaim These Streets
  • Refuge
  • Respect
  • SafeLives
  • Sistah Space
  • Solace Women’s Aid
  • Southall Black Sisters
  • The Traveller Movement
  • Victim Support
  • Woman’s Trust
  • Women and Girls Network
  • Women’s Aid
  • Women’s Resource Centre

Representatives from the Metropolitan Police Service and The Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) will also be in attendance.

The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 3 November 2021 from 10am, in Committee Rooms 4 & 5 at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).

Media and members of the public are invited to attend.

The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
