There have been at least 18 reported homicides in London so far this year, with knife crime being one of the main causes.
The leader of the Mayor’s Violence Reduction Unit (VRU), former Lambeth Council Leader Lib Peck, began work on the unit this week.
Also, the Mayor has announced additional funding to tackle violence against women and girls, at the same time as he published research looking at the reasons for the increase in domestic and sexual offences in the capital.
Tomorrow, the Police & Crime Committee will hold a question and answer session with the Metropolitan Police and the Mayor’s Office for Police and Crime.
