Mayor must act on London Bridge "chaos"

Created on
22 January 2015

Darren Johnson, Green Party Member of the London Assembly, has urged the Mayor of London to hold rail operators to account for the recent delays and disruption experienced by passengers using London Bridge station.

In a formal written question tabled at yesterday’s Mayor’s Question Time meeting, Darren called on Boris Johnson to consider whether train operating companies have been successfully meeting passengers’ needs in recent months.

The Mayor will respond to Darren’s question in early February.

Darren commented

“Nobody is denying that the London Bridge station rebuild is a hugely complex project. However, passengers continue to pay high fares and rightly expect a satisfactory service to match.”

“We have seen standards drop well below an acceptable level in recent weeks with overcrowding, a lack of electronic departure boards and delayed and cancelled trains pushing commuters to despair. I am therefore calling on the Mayor to hold train operators to account for the shambles we have seen at this station since Christmas.”

London Bridge Chaos

Question No: 2015/0078

Darren Johnson

While rebuilding a major railway station is undoubtedly a hugely complex logistical operation, do you really have confidence that Southern and Southeastern have been fulfilling their passengers' needs to the best of their ability given the chaos at London Bridge and the extremely poor services to and from the station over several months?
