London Assembly: A Day in the Life film

Created on
20 February 2019

From summonsing the Mayor and launching the new London Youth Assembly, to promoting more Blue Plaques for women and visiting a housing estate – the work of London’s Assembly Members is certainly varied.

The role of the London Assembly is to question the policies and actions of the Mayor and his advisors on behalf of Londoners. It also conducts investigations on important issues and makes recommendations on how the lives of Londoners could be improved.

In order to show how the work of the Assembly is relevant to those who live and work in our city, a new film has been launched showing an average day for Assembly Members.

The 8-minute film, ‘A Day in the Life of a London Assembly Member’ follows five Assembly Members over the course of a day, in a ‘fly on the wall’ documentary style.

The journey travels from City Hall to the Olympic Park, Millbank Studios and an Early Years Hub in Wandsworth. Issues featured include the delay to Crossrail, Brexit and cold, damp and mouldy homes.

Tony Arbour, Chairman of the London Assembly said:

“This film is a real insight into the huge range of work conducted by Assembly Members on the issues that matter to the people of this great city. From visiting Londoners’ homes and partnering with local teenagers to hear about issues that are impacting them every day, the London Assembly does the grassroots work to find out what really matters to people who live in the capital.

“Londoners need to know that the Assembly works for them and represents their voice – so hopefully this film will help to shine some light on how that happens.

“Holding the Mayor to account is a serious job and the difference the Assembly makes at City Hall should not be underestimated.”
