- 2,500 gun crime offences
- 85,000 domestic abuse offences
Violent crime has become one of the defining issues of Sadiq Khan’s mayoralty. In response he established the £6.8 million Violence Reduction Unit which aims to deliver a long-term strategy to address the root causes of violence.
He appointed Lib Peck, leader of Lambeth Council, as VRU director in March.
Tomorrow, the Police & Crime Committee will have a first chance to question Lib Peck about how she plans to use the VRU to confront violent crime.
Topics to be discussed include:
- Priorities for the VRU
- How it will tackle all types of violence
- How the VRU will deliver locally across boroughs
- How its success will be measured
The meeting will take place on Tuesday 30 April 2019 from 10.00am in Committee Room 5 at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).
Media and members of the public are invited to attend
The meeting can also be viewed LIVE via webcast or on our YouTube channel.
