In response to the Mayor’s announcement of the launch of a new London Fire Cadets unit in Wandsworth as part of a £1.1 million funding boost, local London Assembly Member, Leonie Cooper AM, said:

“It has been fantastic to see the Mayor listen to our calls and provide a significant funding boost to the Fire Cadets programme and that a unit will be launching in Wandsworth.

“Our community has seen deep cuts made to our youth services at the hands of this Government. The expansion of this scheme will go towards patching up some of this damage and providing many local young people with a positive and invaluable opportunity to develop essential life and employability skills.

“The Fire Cadets programme also plays a vital role in ensuring that the London Fire Brigade is able to attract and nurture the next generation of talent from a wide range of communities and backgrounds”.
