News from Len Duvall OBE: New pilot scheme to tag domestic abusers will help stop reoffending

Created on
09 March 2021

In response to the Mayor’s announcement of a new Londonwide pilot scheme to tag domestic abuse offenders, London Assembly Member, Len Duvall AM, said:

“This pilot should help us better protect survivors of domestic abuse right across London. What I want to see from this scheme is it becoming easier to monitor offenders, to prevent abusers breaching restraining orders, and to keep survivors safe from further harm.

“In the UK there are huge gaps in the way we protect victims of domestic abuse. It’s been appalling to see domestic abuse going up during lockdown, and I’m hugely concerned about the high reoffending rates across the country.

“This pilot is the targeted approach that we need to tackle reoffending, but the Government must now take City Hall’s lead and stop resisting calls for the introduction of a Domestic Abusers’ Register – something we have been calling for over many years.

“We simply can’t continue to fail victims, and a Register would send an even clearer message to anyone committing domestic abuse that the police are watching them.”
