Flying empty aircraft so residents can experience the noise

“Hiring and flying empty planes over London will give residents experience of nightmare night flight noise”

Sir Howard Davies, Chairman of the Airports Commission, says it could be possible to trial a third runway at Heathrow – by hiring and flying empty aircraft so residents can experience the noise for themselves.

This was in response to questioning by Conservative London Assembly Member, Kit Malthouse.

Speaking after the Q&A session at the London Assembly, Kit Malthouse, said:

Renting empty aircraft and flying them over the proposed approaches of a future third runway would give Londoners – who currently live in the less affected parts of the City – the opportunity to see, hear and feel for themselves the nightmare of night flight noise, if Heathrow expansion is allowed to go ahead. It is an opportunity for residents to put a future third runway on trial and show people what life would be like, without inflicting permanent misery on them. I’m heartened that Sir Howard Davies has committed to seriously consider this.
