News from Keith Prince: Mayor ‘standing idle’ while Southern commuters suffer

Sadiq Khan is failing to represent Londoners by refusing to intervene in the industrial dispute affecting Southern Rail customers, London Assembly member Keith Prince says.

The Mayor of London has declined to get involved in the row between the RMT and Govia Thameslink, which is causing commuter misery for many thousands of people in south London.

Conservative London Assembly member Keith Prince believes the Mayor is well placed to address the problem and claims he has a duty to stand up to the RMT on Londoners’ behalf.

He said:

“The Mayor is standing idle whilst a union who backed him into office holds Southern Rail to ransom and causes travel chaos for thousands of working Londoners. This is not good enough.

“He has previously implied the dispute is none of his business – a ludicrous position to take when the strike affects so many thousands of London residents and employees.

“The Mayor came to power promising to eliminate London Underground strikes by meeting with union representatives. If he believes that that would help on the Tube then he has a duty to stand up for Londoners now by seeking to persuade his union pals to stop trying to hold Londoners to ransom.

“Londoners will no doubt be extremely disappointed to see the Mayor sat quietly on the side lines whilst this strike takes place. It is time he stops siding with his union mates and starts representing the long-suffering Southern commuters.”
