London Labour Assembly Member John Biggs demands the Mayor of London urgently implement the segregation of Cycling Superhighway 2. Following the tragic deaths of three cyclists along CS2 in the past two years, John is launching a campaign to make the route safe through a complete and urgent redesign - aiming to make the entire Aldgate to Bow route segregated.
John has consistently raised concerns about the safety of cyclists along the CS2 as, unlike the popular CS3, cyclists share the road with vehicles for the entire route. He will be meeting with cycling groups in the coming weeks to discuss the issue with them, after which he will seek a meeting with Boris Johnson, Chair of Transport for London, to demand that he urgently introduce segregation along the length of the route.
Local London Assembly Member John Biggs AM said: “The Mayor must take urgent action to segregate CS2. There have been too many tragedies on this route and in its current state it is completely inadequate as a safe route for cyclists. CS3, which runs from Tower Hill through Canary Wharf to Barking and is segregated for the most part, was well thought out by TfL and is extremely popular amongst cyclists. This should be the standard to which of all of London’s Cycle Superhighways are designed. “I want the maximum pressure on the Mayor to improve the design of the CS2 and introduce full segregation. CS2 creates, in my view, a false sense of assurance to cyclists. To make it fit for purpose, changes need to be implemented without delay. The standard that has been set on the CS2 extension to Stratford should be mirrored throughout the route.”
