Local London Assembly Member John Biggs today criticised TfL over the failure to complete the redesign of Bow roundabout, which would make the junction safer for pedestrians and cyclists. The safety measures were supposed to be completed by this summer to make the Roundabout following the tragic death of two cyclists last year.
Changes yet to be made by TfL include new footway surfacing, lighting, and improvements to the unsignalised pedestrian crossings, which John Biggs has been campaigning for over the past two years. After continued pressure from John Biggs, Mayor Boris Johnson made a commitment to review safety of the roundabout.
Local London Assembly member, John Biggs said: “Now the Olympics and Paralympics are finished it is critical that the safety measures that were promised are put in place immediately. Boris needs to keep his promise and get an urgent grip on safety at Bow roundabout for all road users.
“TfL have previously said that there is nothing that they can do to make the roundabout safer, without causing traffic jams. It is time they bite the bullet and accept longer journey times for motorists in exchange for keeping pedestrians and cyclists safe.”
