News from Joanne McCartney: 87 vehicles seized from A10 for road traffic offences

Created on
09 August 2021

87 vehicles have been seized by the Roads and Transport Policing Command (RTPC) for road traffic offences along the Enfield stretch of the A10 in the space of seven months. These new figures were recently revealed by the Mayor of London in a written response to local London Assembly Member, Joanne McCartney AM, after she raised concerns about increasing reports of road racing on behalf of Bush Hill residents.

In Sadiq Khan’s written response, it was also revealed that the RTPC, funded by the Metropolitan Police and TfL, had issued over 350 Traffic Offence Reports along the A10 section in Enfield since January 2021, mostly for dangerous or anti-social driving.

Ms McCartney welcomed the installation of speed cameras on the A10 after they were put in place by Transport for London (TfL) in March 2020. The local London Assembly Member had been calling for these since 2007.

The Mayor has now provided her with additional assurances that the corridor will continue to be a priority deployment spot for road enforcement.

A meeting was also held on 13th July between TfL, the Met Police and Enfield Council to discuss what more could be done to tackle speeding and other traffic offences on the stretch of road.

Local London Assembly Member, Joanne McCartney AM, said:

“Bush Hill residents have approached me with their concerns about an increase in road racing on the Enfield section of the A10.

“I have been highlighting the issue of speeding, dangerous driving and illegal use of bus lanes on this stretch of road for many years and I don’t want to see these issues get worse again.

“Alongside the installation of speed cameras last year, it has been positive to see that regular enforcement action is being taken by the RTPC and to receive reassurances from the Mayor that the corridor will continue to be a priority for them.

“I am now keen to see what other options will now be put on the table to clamp down further on this after the recent meeting between TfL, the Met and the council”.
