In response to Transport for London’s (TfL) publication of the Central London Bus Service Review consultation report, local London Assembly Member, Jennette Arnold OBE AM, said:
“It is hugely disappointing that, despite my campaign alongside local residents and councillors, TfL have decided to proceed with the withdrawal of the 48 bus route.
“After being contacted by a number of constituents and the Save our Buses campaign on the issue, I am very concerned that the loss of the 48 will have a significant impact on those who rely on local bus services for their commute to work and to get around the capital.
“It is positive news, and also a testament to the local people who have led hard-fought campaigns, that TfL have announced that they will not be cutting the 271 night bus. This would have adversely affected those trying to access A&E and hospital workers on night shifts.
“It must also be remembered that the Government have removed £700 million a year from TfL’s operating budget. This reckless and irresponsible action has formed the backdrop to TfL having to make some difficult decisions when it comes to investing in London’s transport infrastructure.
“Going forward, I will be closely monitoring TfL’s plans to mitigate the issues and level of disruption that their proposals might cause”.
