- The Mayor has identified antisocial behaviour as a priority for each borough in the latest Police and Crime Plan for London [1].
- Yet, with the exception of 2016-17, calls to the Metropolitan Police about antisocial behaviour have been in decline since 2009[2].
- In the last three years, 86 per cent of ASB calls to the Met were recorded as ‘nuisance antisocial behaviour’, 11 per cent ‘personal antisocial behaviour’ and three per cent as ‘environmental antisocial behaviour’[3].
Why has the Mayor identified antisocial behaviour as a priority in every London borough when the number of reports appear to be decreasing?
Have funding cuts in the Met had an impact on resource levels going into tackling antisocial behaviour?
How will London’s new Victims Commissioner support victims of antisocial behaviour?
The Police and Crime Committee will tomorrow continue its investigation into anti-social behaviour in the capital.
This meeting will focus on: the scope and nature of antisocial behaviour; the steps that have been taken to address antisocial behaviour; the demand it places on the Met and other partners; and what more the Mayor can do to support London’s local agencies responsible for tackling antisocial behaviour.
The guests are:
- Commander Julian Bennett, Metropolitan Police Service
- Inspector Nick Fallowfield, Metropolitan Police Service
- Natasha Plummer, Head of Engagement, Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime
- Shirley Holmes, Community MARAC Coordinator, Brent Council
- Andy Opie, Director of Safety, Croydon Council
- Lee Hutchings, Managing Director, Parkguard Ltd
The meeting will take place on Wednesday 6 September from 10:00am in the Chamber at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).
Media and members of the public are invited to attend
