What are Intensification Areas and how do they work?

Created on
02 November 2015

This meeting took place on 3 November 2015. Read the transcript here.

The Mayor’s London Plan identifies seven Intensification Areas.

These are built up areas with good existing or potential public transport links, which can support redevelopment at higher densities.

When added together, the seven Intensification Areas can accommodate 8,000 new jobs and 8,650 new homes.

The London Assembly Regeneration Committee will explore the Mayor’s rationale behind designating Intensification Areas in the London Plan and examine their progress to date.

The Committee will also discuss what Intensification Areas mean for local residents and communities – do they make it harder for people to get the information they want about plans and progress?

The following guests will be questioned:

  • Darren Richards, Strategic Planning Manager, Greater London Authority (GLA).
  • Stephen Kelly, Assistant Director for Planning, LB Haringey.
  • Alex Williams, Director of Borough Planning, Transport for London (TfL).
  • Faraz Baber, Head of Planning and Development Policy, London First.

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, 3 November at 10:00am in Committee Room 5 at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).

Media and members of the public are invited to attend. The meeting can also be viewed via webcast.
