London Ambulance street scene
Created on
02 December 2020

During the height of the first wave of COVID-19, Londoners made around 11,000 calls per day for an ambulance, compared to 5,500 a day before the pandemic, doubling the amount of calls received.

The London Assembly Health Committee will tomorrow investigate the London Ambulance Service’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic so far and how it is supporting staff on the frontline. The Committee will also examine how the Mayor can play a role in helping to support ambulance workers and the service going forward.

The guests are:

  • Heather Lawrence OBE, Chair, LAS Trust Board
  • Garrett Emmerson, Chief Executive, LAS

The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 2 December 2020 from 11.30am. In line with government advice, this meeting will take place virtually.

Media and members of the public can watch the meeting live here.

Notes for Editors:

  1. Read the agenda papers.
  2. Dr Onkar Sahota AM, Chair of the Health Committee, is available for interview.
  3. As well as investigating issues that matter to Londoners, the London Assembly acts as a check and a balance on the Mayor.
