In response to the Mayor’s announcement of an extra £60 million in police funding, Gareth Bacon AM, Chairman of the London Assembly Budget and Performance Committee said:
“We asked the Mayor to use his powers to protect the Met’s budget over four months ago. [1]
It was our suggestion that he should use the flexibility of business rates and council tax income to fund the Met – so we welcome today’s announcement.
This money will not solve all of the Met’s financial difficulties - but it helps.
Irrespective of government funding, the Mayor does have financial choices he can make and we are pleased to see him making the choice to keep Londoners safe.”
