In response to the Mayor’s announcement of plans for London’s largest car-free day to date, Labour’s London Assembly Transport Spokesperson, Florence Eshalomi AM, said:

“It is very positive that we are following the lead of other major cities across the world and hosting our largest car-free day to date, giving Londoners the opportunity to reimagine what our cityscape could look like without the blight of traffic and congestion.

“This is an important step from the Mayor, as a vital measure in our bid to clamp down on toxic air in the capital which contributes to the premature deaths of almost 10,000 Londoners per year.

“For too long, we have given cars preferential treatment when it comes to the use and design of our public spaces. Sadly, this has often come at the expense of the health of Londoners and our children”.
