(TfL) fares will rise by RPI+1 from 1st March
In response to the news that Transport for London (TfL) fares will rise by RPI+1 from 1st March, local London Assembly Member, Florence Eshalomi AM, said:
“The Government’s refusal to provide TfL with a sustainable and long-term emergency funding deal has left little choice but for fares to rise.
“TfL services are reliant on fares income, and this dropped by 90% during the first lockdown and has struggled to recover since.
“Before the pandemic struck, City Hall had put a fares freeze in place over the last four years, saving the average London commuter hundreds of pounds.
“But with many Londoners facing tough financial challenges during this lockdown period, this increase will be met with disappointment. However, frustration should be levelled at Government Ministers who immediately gave private train operators a hefty bailout, but left TfL with a sticking plaster and an uncertain future”.
