Gang associated girls need better support to escape criminal and sexual exploitation, says a new report from Labour London Assembly Member, Florence Eshalomi MP AM. The report – Gang Associated Girls: Supporting young women at risk – reveals that many at risk of exploitation go unidentified. Just 6 girls appear on the Metropolitan Police gangs matrix, but data uncovered by Ms Eshalomi shows that 1,000 girls associated with gangs have been identified by children’s services departments. Launching her report, Ms Eshalomi said that with the risk growing as women are expected to take on bigger roles in gang operations, interventions needed to be “massively upscaled”.
