The European Union is a key source of funding for London. Its European Structural and Investment Funds support unemployed people into work and SMEs and voluntary organisations to grow. The funds also contributed to infrastructure projects like the London to Glasgow west coast main line, the cable car and Crossrail.
When the UK’s access to European funding regimes ends after Brexit, London is at risk of losing millions of pounds.
Tomorrow, the London Assembly EU Exit Working Group will:
- Assess the implications for London if the Government does not provide replacement funding for ESIF after Brexit.
- Consider the opportunities that Brexit and the Government’s plans for a UK Shared Prosperity Fund may bring for London.
- Ask guests for views on what more the Mayor and the London Assembly can do to put forward London’s requirement for replacement ESIF funding post Brexit.
The guests are:
- Rt Hon. the Lord Heseltine of Thenford CH
- Alex Conway, European Programmes Director, GLA
- Despina Johnson, Chief Executive, Enterprise Enfield
- Lisa Redding, Acting Chief Executive, London Voluntary Service Council
- Kris Krasnowski, Deputy Director, London and East Cities and Local Growth Unit, BEIS and CLG
The meeting will take place on Wednesday 18 October from 11:00am in The Chamber at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).
Media and members of the public are invited to attend
The meeting can also be viewed LIVE via webcast or YouTube
