“Within 20 years, the communities which host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will enjoy the same social and economic chances as their neighbours across London.”[2]
A legacy for east London following the Olympic and Paralympic Games, played an important role in London’s winning Olympic bid for 2012.
So, five years on, how have the life chances and deprivation levels of the host communities changed? The latest statistics for 2015/16 show a mixed bag of progress.
Tomorrow, the London Assembly Regeneration Committee will focus on the concept of convergence[3] for east London, its progress and how local communities have been affected by London 2012. The guests are:
- Liz Fenton, Economic Programmes Advisor, Growth Boroughs Partnership
- Karen Irving, Department for Communities and Local Government
- Graham Kinshott, Department for Communities and Local Government
- Ralph Ward, Joint Founder, London Urban Visits/Visiting Professor, University of East London
The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 6 September from 2:00pm in The Chamber, City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).
