In response to the publication of the Government’s NHS 10-year plan, Labour’s London Assembly Health Spokesperson, Dr Onkar Sahota AM, said:
"This is at best half a plan. Until the Government deals with the long-running crisis in social care and ever-increasing vacancy rates, the NHS will remain under pressure.
"Londoners have some of the most unequal health outcomes in the country. But spending on stop-smoking and other healthy living programmes is still falling. The plan's higher spending on GPs and care in the community is welcome, but now the Government must deliver. Previous promises of more GPs have been broken.
"The Mayor is tackling London's toxic air, supporting infants and new parents, and helping people deal with mental ill health. The NHS 10-year plan needs to be paired with stronger powers for London to make progress on these issues. With Brexit also expected to have a profound impact on our health services, the Government must do all they can to lessen the blow – first and foremost, this means removing the prospect of a no-deal.”
