In response to the publication of the Government’s white paper on adult social care reform, Labour’s London Assembly Health Spokesperson, Dr Onkar Sahota AM, said:

“This long-overdue white paper has disappointingly missed the mark- failing to properly address the urgent social care crisis we are facing this winter.

“What we needed is a much more detailed plan to attract more workers into the sector. It’s a huge injustice that care workers are so poorly paid and have been left to struggle with the increasing costs of living- especially in London.

“It has been abundantly clear for a long time that London’s local authorities have been pushed to breaking point by the surging demands on their adult social care services.

“Councils need immediate additional funding this winter to tackle huge waiting lists and backlogs. They simply can’t afford to wait until the next local Government Finance Settlement in February”.
