News from Dr Onkar Sahota: London being left behind in national vaccination programme

In response to new NHS figures revealing that London has given out the lowest number of vaccinations in the country so far, Labour’s London Assembly Health Spokesperson, Dr Onkar Sahota AM, said:

“Despite the progress that has been made with the vaccination programme so far, it is unacceptable and very concerning that London is being left behind.

“Our capital has pockets of some of the highest rates of poverty and overcrowding in the country and cases could surge again in these areas.

“As the Mayor has recently highlighted, the current ‘fair share’ formula for vaccine distribution isn’t working, especially when it comes to cities with diverse population densities such as London. This needs to be urgently reviewed if we are going to hit the target of vaccinating two million people each week.

“On top of this, we need the Government to get to grips with some of the continuing issues in the supply chain and tackle vaccine hesitancy head-on, as too many doses are going to waste that could be used by our heroic frontline workers”.
