London is a city with high health inequality, with significant variations in life expectancy across boroughs.
In Mayor Sadiq Khan’s draft strategy, he states that he wants “a healthier, fairer city, where nobody’s health suffers because of who they are or where they live.”
So, how is the Mayor going to deliver this vision? What is happening in keys areas, such as reducing childhood obesity, improving mental health, and tackling smoking, problem drinking and substance abuse? And does he have the powers and the support to be able to carry through his plans?
The London Assembly Health Committee will tomorrow discuss the Mayor’s draft strategy to help inform the Committee’s response to the consultation. The guests are:
- Doctor Somen Banerjee, Director of Public Health, LB Tower Hamlets & Vice Chair of the Association of Directors of Public Health (London)
- Professor Yvonne Doyle, Statutory Health Adviser to the Mayor of London & Director, Public Health England (London)
- Imelda Redmond, National Director, Healthwatch England
- Peter Goldblatt, Institute of Health Equity, University College London
- Amanda Coyle, Assistant Director of Health, Education and Youth, Greater London Authority
The meeting will take place on Tuesday, 12 September at 3:00pm in The Chamber at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).
Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
