Newham Council last night approved an application for an extended terminal, a new taxi-way and additional parking stands for larger aircraft at City Airport in east London. The expansion will increase the number of take-offs and landings at the airport from 70,000 a year to 111,000 and will almost double the number of passengers to six million a year by 2023(1).
London Assembly Member Jenny Jones AM said:
“This expansion spells even more noise misery for the London residents who already suffer disproportionately from aircraft noise blight. The London Mayor should act to protect large numbers of East London residents who will have their lives ruined by this decision.”
“We are running out of time to avert a climate catastrophe that will devastate our environment and economy. The last thing we need is to accelerate this process by expanding aviation capacity at City or any other airport"
