National Insurance is set to increase this April by 1.25 percentage points and there have been a number of calls for the increase to be delayed to support those struggling with the increased cost of living.

The London Assembly has today called on the Chair of the London Assembly to write to the Chancellor, to ask him to reconsider the planned increase this April.

Len Duvall OBE AM, who proposed the motion said:

“The reckless 10% National Insurance hike will result in the lowest-paid paying more.

“With the cost of living crisis pushing more people to the brink, it beggars belief to plough on with this increase.

“Low-income Londoners are being pushed closer to debt and financial ruin and this could plunge thousands more under the poverty line.”
