News from Caroline Russell: London still global hotspot for congestion

Created on
18 October 2017

‘Traffic is still untamed’ says Caroline Russell, as London’s congestion crisis earned it a top spot in world-wide rankings in new figures released today.

London was ranked seventh worst city in the world for congestion, and six of the ten worst roads in the UK are in the capital, according to the report by traffic experts Inrix. [1]

Caroline Russell says:

We have too many vehicles on our roads – the streets are clogged with congestion and pollution that is badly affecting Londoners’ lives.

New roads encourage more traffic. I have called on the Mayor to scrap the Silvertown tunnel because it will only bring more congestion and pollution to east Londoners whose lives are already blighted by bad air.

The Mayor shouldn’t be building in more congestion that is at odds with his vision for healthy streets.

If the Mayor wants London to lose its top congestion ranking, he should push on with providing proper networks of cycling and walking routes to help people get around in the most efficient way possible.
