The new London Plan is anticipating a steep increase in new homes to be created in outer London. However, some suburban boroughs are concerned they will not be able to deliver at the levels proposed. They claim that more intensive development will be at the expense of large family housing and local character.
The Mayor’s measures to meet growing demand include using land more intensively, especially around suburban stations and town centres, more conversions of larger homes and greater use of identified small sites and opportunity areas.
Ahead of a full review of the draft London Plan next year, the London Assembly Planning Committee will tomorrow examine whether the Mayor’s housing plans for Outer London are deliverable.
The following guests will attend:
- Neil Sinden, Director, CPRE London
- Robin Brown, Hayes and Harlington Community Development Forum
- Jane Richardson, Assistant Chief Executive Growth and Regeneration, London Borough of Bexley
- Shifa Mustafa, Executive Director of Place, London Borough of Croydon
- David Scourfield, Chief Planning Officer, London Borough of Ealing
- Sam Cuthbert, Principal Strategic Policy Planner, London Borough of Ealing
- Seb Salom, Head of Strategic Planning and Growth, London Borough of Bexley
- Dr Riëtte Oosthuizen, Partner, Planning, HTA
The meeting will take place on Tuesday 9 October at 3.30pm in Committee Room 4, City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).
