What are the likely next steps in the UK’s exit from the EU?
Where are we at with the latest contingency planning taking place across London for a no-deal Brexit?
At its meeting on the 13th February, the London Assembly EU Exit Working Group put questions to the London Resilience Forum (LRF). Assembly Members were told:
- The London Resilience Forum had concerns that there was a lack of detail or explanation about the national planning assumptions.
- The London risk register had not changed since October.
- The LRF is working with a range of partners to better understand how any disruption at the docks or other points of entry might impact on the running of London.
- Every Monday, the LRF provides a report to central Government on expected impacts, any new risks and what preparations they are putting into place, so that Government has an overview and can spot trends across the country.
- Government has now put itself into a 24/7 operation mode and the LRF is looking to boost its own resources.
Tomorrow, the London Assembly EU Exit Working Group will ask:
- Have the risks around food and fuel supplies to London changed in the past month?
- What work is taking place around the ports of entry to ensure a free a flow of people and goods is possible in the event of a no-deal?
- Have contingency plans of businesses firmed up over the past few weeks?
The guests are:
- Joe Owen, Associate Director of the Institute for Government’s Brexit programme
- Fiona Twycross, Chair of the London Resilience Forum
- John Hetherington, Head of London Resilience
The meeting will take place on Thursday 28 March from 10am in The Chamber (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).
Media and members of the public are invited to attend
