Today, the Government announced a 2.5% pay rise for police officers. This month, the London Assembly unanimously agreed a motion calling on the government to increase police officers’ pay.
In response, Chairman of the London Assembly Police & Crime Committee, Unmesh Desai AM, said:
“Earlier this month, the London Assembly unanimously agreed a motion calling for an increase in police officers’ pay. Police officers have one of the hardest jobs in the country and are currently under huge strain with crime levels and budget cuts.
“Police officers are still not receiving the salaries they should be. They are at the heart of our communities and from the stories we heard last week at the London Bridge terror attack inquest and the Police Bravery Awards, we know they put themselves in difficult and dangerous situations to protect Londoners.
“So, while we do welcome today’s news, we will continue to call on the Government to fairly remunerate police officers for their outstanding work, and to call on the Mayor to do the same.”
